Patrick Curry’s idea for a gardening “sim”, Green Thumb Gardening, is very appealing. But what makes this idea different from other “sims”?
- Gardening is something we all do (or could do), whereas nobody really builds cities (for example).
- This also means it could be educational. Knowing what to plant and when is more likely to be useful than knowing the effect of changing the tax rate.
- Gardening is on a human scale; gardens are personal spaces and expressive of our creativity and effort.
- Gardens can be beautiful in ways cities cannot.
The idea of creating and sharing your own garden is very nice, though I would have my garden grow in real-time as my screen saver.
