You’re good at what you do. You’ve shipped systems, led teams, earned trust. But somewhere in the last year or two, effort stopped translating into progress. Not because you lack ability — because you’re solving the wrong problem.
The gap between being a great engineer and leading with impact is not skill. It is perception. You learned to see systems, dependencies, failure modes. But you were never taught to see yourself with the same clarity — your positioning, your leverage, the invisible dynamics that determine whose voice carries weight and whose gets lost.
That’s what coaching is for. Not motivation. Not therapy. A structured process for seeing what you can’t see about your own situation, and building a path through it.
Who this is for
Senior engineers, tech leads, and engineering managers who are:
- Accomplished but stuck — delivering well, but unclear on what comes next
- Drowning in execution — so deep in output that strategy and influence have atrophied
- Facing a transition — IC to lead, lead to manager, manager to director — and feeling the ground shift
- Carrying too much — not because you can’t delegate, but because you haven’t seen the structure that would let you
This is not for people who need accountability to do their work. You already work hard. This is for people whose hard work has stopped being enough.
How it works
A 12-week structured engagement. Not open-ended “let’s see how it goes.” Twelve weeks with clear phases:
- Reality Audit — map where you actually stand, not where you think you stand
- Direction — define what advancement looks like for you, not the generic career ladder
- Systems — build visibility, influence, and delivery systems that create leverage
- Integration — consolidate gains into a sustainable operating rhythm
Sessions are 45 minutes, twice per month (Core program) or weekly (Intensive). Async support between sessions — you don’t have to wait two weeks when something comes up.
All sessions via video call. All materials through a dedicated coaching platform.
About me
I’m Phil Wallach. ICF-certified coach. 20+ years in engineering leadership including large-scale revenue transformation at Atlassian and co-founding a SaaS company.
I’ve led teams through platform migrations, built engineering cultures from scratch, and spent the last decade learning — sometimes painfully — that the skills that make you a great engineer are not the skills that make you a great leader. They’re the foundation, but they’re not sufficient.
I coach because the transition I went through is the transition my clients are going through. I’ve been on both sides of it.

- Not therapy or mental health support
